This is a very disturbing longterm and widespread practice in the medical profession. Unfortunately one has to be concerned how much their medical doctor's prescribing habits and their surgeon's choice of devices and procedures is influenced by money and gifts from the drug and device companies. Many recent studies have shown that this money does influence practice habits.

Drugs do not equal health
Great article by Dr. Peter Lind from the Washington Times.
*Acetaminophen (Tylenol ®) is the leading cause of acute liver failure in the United States resulting in approximately 140,000 poisoning cases, 56,000 ER visits, and approximately 100 deaths each year.
*Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (anti-inflammatories) are the second leading cause of peptic ulcers resulting in more than 100,000 hospitalizations at an estimated $2 billion in additional healthcare costs and 17,000 deaths yearly.
"*The US ranks last in health care outcomes of all other industrialized countries.
